It is known that football players are at greater risk of developing hip osteoarthritis (OA). Physiotherapists can play an important role in the prevention and treatment of the condition. In this PowerTalk Dr. Joshua Heerey (LaTrobe, AUS) will provide attendees with an evidence-based overview of the hip osteoarthritis continuum in football players. He will merge scientific evidence and clinical experience to provide you with comprehensive understanding of the OA continuum in football players, with a particular focus on diagnosis and clinical management.

Dr Joshua Heerey is a Research Fellow at La Trobe University Sport and Exercise Medicine Research Centre and clinical physiotherapist. He completed his PhD in 2021, with his research program focussing on risk factors for early hip osteoarthritis in football players. He has published extensively in leading sports medicine and orthopaedic journals and is recognised an emerging international leader in the area of early hip osteoarthritis in athletes. He is a member of the International Hip Pain Research Network and scientific faculty for the Young Athlete’s Hip Research Collaboration.  Dr Heerey has worked as a physiotherapist for over 10 years and specialises in the treatment of hip and groin conditions.
